Life Begins @ 50

from You've Changed by Brian Stone

about

Big birthdays can be really daunting but what ever age you are you can always set your life on a new course.

lyrics

49 years trying to make sense out of it all
Go to school and get job, get wed, have kids it's not a ball
Now the kids left home the times our own, we're having to take stock
While all around's reminders that your life's a ticking clock

So carpe diem, don't put things off, we won't procrastinate
It is time to see and do all of the things we said could wait
And while we've still a little of the vigour of our youth
We're gonna make the most of it. I'll share this one home truth

Oh, life begins at 50
It's been quite a wait, but now I'm here I'm feeling great
Yes, life begins at 50
There is no doubt about it I am here to shout about it
I may look like an old trout it's still the case
50's ace!

So what's the plan, what should I do, now half a century's gone
Should I turn to God and if so how'm I gonna know which one
No, I'd rather choose the path of hedonism every time
Save me a place in hades if this is such a crime

Some buy fast cars or motorbikes, try to relive their teens
Impress the ladies one more time in Clarkson tight blue jeans
But I've picked up my old guitar to give it one last slug
And hit the road with my sweet lass - let music be our drug

Chorus

Lets grow old disgracefully
Ignore the barrel of mortality's gun
We'll show them all a thing or two
Why should the young have all of the fun

I could scale the Eiger naked
Go on TV shows and fake it
Cross the desert on segway
But I'm not making much headway
I could surf across Niagara
Crash sex parties on Viagra
Or maybe just write songs
and sing them til I'm dead and gone.

Oh, life begins at 50
It's been quite a wait, but now I'm here I'm feeling great
Yes, life begins at 50
There is no doubt about it I am here to shout about it
I may look like an old trout it's still the case
That life begins at 50
I hear 20's a good age
and 30's all the rage
If you're naughty when you're 40
That's no disgrace
But I'm still here at 50
And Yeh, feeling quite nifty
And if you think I can't keep up the pace
No 50's ACE!
