about

As others have found it is virtually impossible to write original songs without being influenced by the acts you love and respect. So when I came up with what I thought was an original chord line and played it to Karen it shouldn't have been a big surprise when she said it sounded like a Gaz Brookfield song!

So, frustrated that he had already written all the best songs, I changed it around and wrote this. When I finished the song I realised that the last line was the first line of "Frank and Sam", Gaz's own song about plagarism! I just had to leave it in and named the song "Under The Sun" in a nod to that number one solo acoustic guy and a colossal influence on my work.

lyrics

All the great songs have been sung, so this one's not as good
As a lot of those that went before, I hope that's understood
And the tune might sound familiar, and the chorus make you frown
And think you've heard it once before but you can't quite pin it down
No you just can't pin it down

Cos some folk like to hear new songs while others don't complain
If all they hear is Brown eyed Girl and Wonderwall again (and again and again and again)
And then again for those who want originality
I'm prepared to have a go but this is what I see
Yes, this is what I see

All the best songs have been written
All the best tunes have been sung
So this is what you're getting
And it's probably already been done
Yes probably already been done

So I'll attempt original, try to be creative
And if the juices don't flow freely you'll just have to live - with
The fact the odd one ends up sounding oddly similar
To a chord line or a melody you just heard in the car
You know you get the idea, that

All the best songs have been written
All the best tunes have been sung
So this is what we're stuck with
And I've only just begun
Yes, I've only just begun

To sing a new song like an old song. This could be your song; your song all along
I'll sing a new song like an old song. This could be your song; your song all along
I'll sing my song, like an old song. Bap bap bada da
I'll sing my song, like an old song. Bap bap bada da. Bap bada da!

All the best songs have been written
All the best tunes have been sung
So won't you sing along
Cos there's nothing new under the sun
