Barrow Downs 05:22
On the equinox, one misty Autumn time Born the son of a poacher man of the old stone line The orchards and the dark game copse The iron age forts on the old hill tops The land of the ancients in my heart and mind The barrow mounds, the coombes and the old ridgeway The Yews and the chalk pits where I used to play As time marched on with friends and kin The land mined deep under my skin I never wanted to ever go away Ooooo Ooooo When I was young I played around in the flint and chalk of the ancient downs Round the rings and the mounds of the place that I called home. When I was young I played around in the flint and chalk of the ancient downs I'm a child of the Barrow Downs I'm a child... of the Barrow Downs To the city and the lowlands of the east Another company drone longing for release A cog in the machine Another slave behind a screen. As the dying soul cries out for peace Ooooo Ooooo But when I get down my mind goes still to the flint and chalk of the ancient hills Round the rings and the mounds of the place that I called home. But when I get down my mind goes still to the flint and chalk of the ancient hills I'm a child of the Barrow Downs I'm a child... of the Barrow Downs I'm a child... of the Barrow Downs Now in the Autumn of my days Now they say you've changed your ways But I feel my spirit's finally free Now it all makes sense to me There's no place I'd rather be Than {right here} with the ones I love you see Ooooo Ooooo Ooooo Ooooo When I die just lay me still in the flint and chalk of the ancient hills Round the rings and the mounds of the place that I called home. When I die just lay me still in the flint and chalk of the ancient hills ancient hills I'm a child of the Barrow Downs I'm a child... of the Barrow Downs When I'm gone I will be found in the flint and chalk of the ancient downs Round the rings and the mounds of the place that I called home. When I'm gone I will be found in the flint and chalk of the ancient downs I'm a child of the Barrow Downs I'm a child... of the Barrow Downs I'm a child... of the Barrow Downs

49 years trying to make sense out of it all Go to school and get job, get wed, have kids it's not a ball Now the kids left home the times our own, we're having to take stock While all around's reminders that your life's a ticking clock So carpe diem, don't put things off, we won't procrastinate It is time to see and do all of the things we said could wait And while we've still a little of the vigour of our youth We're gonna make the most of it. I'll share this one home truth Oh, life begins at 50 It's been quite a wait, but now I'm here I'm feeling great Yes, life begins at 50 There is no doubt about it I am here to shout about it I may look like an old trout it's still the case 50's ace! So what's the plan, what should I do, now half a century's gone Should I turn to God and if so how'm I gonna know which one No, I'd rather choose the path of hedonism every time Save me a place in hades if this is such a crime Some buy fast cars or motorbikes, try to relive their teens Impress the ladies one more time in Clarkson tight blue jeans But I've picked up my old guitar to give it one last slug And hit the road with my sweet lass - let music be our drug Chorus Lets grow old disgracefully Ignore the barrel of mortality's gun We'll show them all a thing or two Why should the young have all of the fun I could scale the Eiger naked Go on TV shows and fake it Cross the desert on segway But I'm not making much headway I could surf across Niagara Crash sex parties on Viagra Or maybe just write songs and sing them til I'm dead and gone. Oh, life begins at 50 It's been quite a wait, but now I'm here I'm feeling great Yes, life begins at 50 There is no doubt about it I am here to shout about it I may look like an old trout it's still the case That life begins at 50 I hear 20's a good age and 30's all the rage If you're naughty when you're 40 That's no disgrace But I'm still here at 50 And Yeh, feeling quite nifty And if you think I can't keep up the pace No 50's ACE!

At school he liked to bend the rules, while teachers looked away Smoke behind the bike sheds, rebellion was child's play Subversive pics and messages scratched on the toilet door Little did the staff room know with him they were at war He was an anarchist - loved to live that way A quiet anarchist - he was into anarchy But in a quiet way - he'd rock the boat gently And be an anarchist - and that's the way he'll stay A quiet anarchist - bap bap badada daa A quiet anarchist - bap bap badada daa Now you won't see him on the streets facing down the riot shields No black flag or Molotovs but that don't mean he yields Yes he'll always find a way to cheat authority Not a life of dull subservient compliant mediocrity He was an anarchist - loved to live that way A quiet anarchist - he was into anarchy But in a quiet way - he'd rock the boat gently And be an anarchist - and that's the way he'll stay A quiet anarchist - bap bap badada daa A quiet anarchist - bap bap badada daa A quiet anarchist - bap bap badada daa A quiet anarchist - bap bap badada daa bap bap badada daa bap bap badada daa Keep off the grass Don't lick your knife Don't run with scissors, it could end your life Take your elbows off the table Speak when you're spoken to Do as I say, not as I do There'll be tears before bedtime I'm gonna count to three Don't you that tone with me I can wait all day I don't mind Don't do that or you'll go blind Too many rules The state's decree Find a way to fight back and you'll be free Don't toe the line Reject newspeak Don't sell out. You could be unique And be an quiet anarchist - love to live that way A quiet anarchist - be into anarchy But in a quiet way - rock the boat gently And be an anarchist - and that's the way you'll stay A quiet anarchist - bap bap badada daa A quiet anarchist - bap bap badada daa A quiet anarchist - bap bap badada daa A quiet anarchist - bap bap badada daa bap bap badada daa bap bap badada daa

I was a teacher, I was happy in my job Educating youngsters was all I cared about Then the men of hate reduced our school to ruin Now half the kids are dead and the rest are on the run Don't call me anything, I didn't want to leave my home, friends or family Don't call me anything, This is all I have now can't you see Don't call me anything, You're just like me You're just like me, you're just like me, you're just like me You're just like me, you're just like me, oh can't you see I was a doctor, I was happy in my job Looking after sick folk was all I cared about Then the men of hate raised our city to the ground The mass of dead and dying was more than I could stand Chorus You're just like me, you're just like me, you're just like me You're just like me, you're just like me, oh can't you see I was a musician, I was happy in my job Folk would come and listen it was all I cared about Now the men of hate they say that music it is evil Now I can't live on but hope my music always will Chorus

We're sitting round the fire, and the flames are burning higher We don't want this night to ever end It's getting so surreal but we love the way it feels All this love and laughter with our friends The stars are shining bright as we fade into the night In the firelight faces all aglow We're singing songs just fine but there are some corny lines Like "You can't push Willy round Willy won't go" But there's still one thing I need to know Still one question before we go I don't know how it's happened, I haven't got a clue Tell me what the answer is I dunno what to do Why's the rum gone? Why's the rum gone? Why's the rum gone? Why is all the rum gone?! There's whisky in the jar as the sound of the guitar Is weaving its magic round the fire Flavoured vodkas and liqueurs as it all becomes a blur Getting Lyn & Hilly ever higher Neil and Helen on the beer, with Douglas sitting near Mark's rolling ciggies ever wider Rob & Carol have run out but Ollie is about So - we drank the Leatherat cider But there's still one thing I need to know Still one question before we go I don't know how it's happened, I haven't got a clue Tell me what the answer is I dunno what to do Why's the rum gone? Why's the rum gone? Why's the rum gone? Why is all the rum gone?! Why's the rum gone? Why's the rum gone? Why is all the rum gone?! It's getting kinda rowdy, voices getting loud the Raucous singing of our favourite tunes Security will frown so we've got to keep it down Stop ourselves from howling at the moon The fire's dying down, but we're still huddled round The sun is in the east and climbing high But all good things must pass, so it's off to bed at last But the memory of this night will never die But there's still that thing I need to know Still that question before we go I think I know what happened, It was probably me and you We'll have to get some more, that's what we'll have to do Now the rum's gone? Now the rum's gone? Now the rum's gone? Why is all the rum gone?! Why's the rum gone? Why's the rum gone? Why is all the rum gone?! Why's the rum gone? Why's the rum gone? Why's the rum gone? Why is all the rum gone?! Why's the rum gone? Why's the rum gone? Oh! Why is all the rum gone?!
