about

Inspired by a bar in Luang Prabang in northern Laos. LP is a beautiful town on the Mekong River and a world heritage site and Utopia is just about the coolest bar you can imagine set in a stunning position over a river. But this country has suffered more than most. The most bombed country in the world (by population) thanks to being a supply route during the Vietnam War. The US dropped millions of cluster bombs here and the unexploded bomblets still litter the countryside causing frequent death and injury to this day. The many mainly young backpackers who frequent Utopia relax and party alongside cluster bomb casings and other relics of the war seemingly immortal and the contrast is moving.

lyrics

Let me take you by the hand, lead you to a distant land
Where the sun it shines all day
And the river runs clear, there is no need for fear
It'll wash your cares away
In Utopia

If you're prepared to pay the price you can come to paradise
To a land where time stands still
Your heart's desire, whatever you aspire
All your dreams fulfilled
In Utopia
In the land of the immortals
Utopia
You'll be invincible

Tam chock, chock dee. Let us drink to unity
Together unconditional
Raise a glass tonight, there is no need to fight
We are indivisible

And we'll stay forever young now the song that we have sung
At the fount of eternal life
No war, unity, love and community
No grief, no pain, no strife

In Laos in Laos. Let me tell you how
Tell you how the times have changed
Now the bombs don't fall, they're hanging on the walls
To remind us war's deranged

No war! No war! We don't want another war
Want to live like this as one
One world, one love under one sky above
Under utopian sun

But here's the deal, no no none of this is real.
It's a land of make believe
It's part of the appeal. It's just how it makes you feel
Content to be deceived

Yeah, we don't care, we're just happy to be there
Bury heads into the sand
Yeah, here's the twist, ignorance is bliss

We are Utopians
